Black Isle is a Certified B Corp
We’re thrilled to announce that Black Isle has become a Certified B Corporation, joining a community of over 6200 businesses around the world dedicated to creating a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. To become certified, companies must undergo an in-depth assessment process and meet strict criteria set by B Lab, the non-profit body which oversees the certification process.
This is an important milestone in our sustainability journey and one we hope to use as a springboard to build on what we’ve done so far. Our commitment to environmental causes stems from day one, when Founder and Managing Director David Gladwin committed to the exclusive use of organic ingredients in our brewing recipes. Our brewery sits at the heart of a 130 acre organic farm where wildlife is encouraged to thrive – we’ve planted thousands of native trees, created ponds and wetlands and invited our local community to help us and benefit along the way.
Each week come snow, rain or shine, volunteers join us in the market garden to learn about permaculture techniques and how to balance cultivation with maintaining an abundance of natural habitat. Local schoolchildren also visit the farm twice a week to benefit from time spent in nature and to learn about a soil-to-table approach to food production.
We’d like to thank our community, staff members and customers for supporting us up to this point and we look forward to taking the next steps in making our business a genuine force for good.
